Society expects that a certain size has to be upheld by people of the public. Size Zero was never a thing until the industry- whether that being the fashion industry or media in general- made it one.
Many celebrities like Sophia Bush, who wrote a heartfelt letter to Urban Outfitters after they released a shirt with the slogan "Eat Less", however protest against that image. They say that "Zero Is Not A Size".
Yes, I am aware that Zero actually is a size now. And to be quite frank: that scares me. That society felt the need to create a new size, a new body image. That they needed to project a new body image on younger girls who struggle to keep up with it every day because they think they have to wear a certain size.
Of course it is nice to have a great body but to aspire being skinny? To advertise that? That in my opinion is taking things too far. I personally would be the last person to say no to a piece of- what the hell, an entire pizza! So saying „Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels“ or putting something as outrageous as „Eat Less“ on a shirt is advertisement gone wrong. Like I said, in my opinion.
If you want to be slim, great. If you want to eat chocolate from time to time, great too. Don‘t let society tell you what you should and shouldn‘t be. People have different metabolisms and genes. Some can eat three burgers without even gaining a pound whereas others count calories but still they do not lose any weight. This however doesn‘t mean that you are unhealthy.
There is no ideal body type that people should strive for. Enjoy your own body, be thankful for what you were given and embrace it. Speaking from own experiences, it is important that you feel comfortable in your own skin. If you want to lose a few pounds- or even gain some- do it because you want to not because someone is telling you to do so. There is no pressure to fit into a certain dress, a certain category as long as you love yourself.
Accept your body for what it is.
There is no definition of "beautiful" that you have to meet. Every single person is unique in their own way and this uniqueness is what causes them to be beautiful. As repetitive as it may sound, but beauty really comes in all shapes and sizes. What matters is what's in your heart. I truly believe that and hope you do too!
So here is what I hope to take from my entry:
You can be slim, you can be big, in the long run you need to be happy and live a happy life. What you make of it is up to you.
xx Jess
PS: If you actually made it through the entire post, which I really hope you did, I have a video to share with you by two British Youtubers called Zoe and Louise. They focused on the topic as well and I think it might help some people.
